Annual Eggnog Toast at Backwaters on Christmas Eve - From 5 to 7 PM Backwaters will offer our homemade eggnog (with a kick, of course) to toast the holidays.

Backwater’s Hors d’ouvre Contest December 8, 2008 - Starting at 3 PM judging for the bragging rights to the best hot and cold hors d’ouvres will begin. Contestants will be judjed on originality, flavor and presentation. Everyone is welcome to participate. Entry forms are at Backwaters.

Great American Dine Out September 21st through September 28th End Childhood Hunger by dining out at Backwaters and other restaurants around the country for this week long event.

 

Backwaters Eighth Anniversary Party, Wednesday, August 20, 2008 Backwaters annual anniversary party is scheduled and the pots are beginning to boil. Join us for an old time southern boil from 5 to 7 PM. Many Sand Key residents have never missed the previous seven parties and you won’t want to miss this one!

Pepper Fest Saturday June 7, 2008 at Sand Key Park

The Sand Key Park will be the site for the 2nd Annual Pepper Fest from 10 to 4 PM on Saturday, June 7th. The festval features hot and spicy foods to sample and purchase, pepper plants, crafts, barbecue, and fun for all. Free admission and parking. Call (727) 423-8433 or e-mail PepperFest@hotmail.com.

July Triathlon at Sand Key Park

The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon needs volunteers for the July 13 event. Participants may still register. The triathlon will include a one-third mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico, a 13-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run finishing in Sand Key Park. The race begins at 7 a.m. at Sand Key Park, 1060 Gulf Blvd. To register, go to www.mpmf.org/triathlon/ home.asp. The fee for individuals is $65 and for relay teams it’s $75. To volunteer, call 820-7790. A $4,000 prize purse will be divided among the top five male and female finishers. Everyone who finishes the race will receive custom medals. Custom plaques will be awarded to the top five finishers in each category.

 

Clearwater Marine Aquarium - April 25th- On Friday, April 25th, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium will throw open it’s doors for Sand Key residents. This free admission invitation is to showcase changes made to the aquarium. The event will run from 5:50 to 9 PM. Light food and drinks will be available for purchase. Backwaters 3rd Annual Chili Cook-off - January 27, 2008 - Join the fun as over 20 contestants bring their chili concoctions to Backwaters for judging. It all starts at 3 PM with the winners announced between 4:30 and 5 PM.

 

Clothes to Kids Dinner and Dance December 16th- The Florida West Coast Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives is sponsoring a dinner and dance at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort Grand Ballroom from 6 to 10 PM.
